A QoS Distributed Transport Architecture
نویسنده
چکیده
A contribution for the definition of a distributed transport architecture in a global Quality of Service (QoS) framework within TCP/IP stack is presented in this paper. A new distributed transport strategy is suggested, making use of dynamic transport agents located strategically along the end-to-end path. Dynamic QoS management, focused on transport layer based QoS adaptation for tolerant multimedia applications traffic, is provided by the designed mechanisms. Tradeoffs between application QoS requirements flexibility and network operation conditions are studied in order to improve application level QoS parameters. Reliability, order, synchronisation and time constraints are important QoS parameters for multimedia applications generated traffic. It is in the context of Heterogeneous Long Fat Pipe Networks (HLFNs) that we show important improvements on those QoS parameters and resource utilization.

Flow Management in a Quality of Service Architectures
Quality of Service (QoS) in distributed systems supporting real-time and multimedia applications must be guaranteed system-wide, including end-systems, communications systems and networks. This paper concentrates primarily on the transport layer of such a system but also describes a generalised Quality of Service Architecture (QoS-A) used to specify and implement application defined QoS over al...
متن کاملKnowledge Base for an Autonomic Transport Layer
The accelerated development of Internet and mobile devices has lead to new QoS-demanding distributed applications and new QoS-providing communication services, particularly at the transport level. The diversity of transport services and underlying networks environments asks for a novel design of the transport layer, able to provide in a transparent and autonomous way the most adapted service to...
متن کاملEnabling Flexible QoS Support in the Object Request Broker COOL
Support of end-to-end Quality-of-Service (QoS) and appropriate high-level programming abstractions are two crucial factors for the development of future telecommunication services and distributed multimedia systems. Todays middleware systems, like the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), support high-level programming abstractions, but they do not appropriately support the demands...
متن کاملQuality of Service Management in Distributed Systems
The integration of distributed multimedia systems support into a communications architecture including the new multiservice networks is important for realising the next generation of open systems standards: it is also a significant technical challenge. A key observation is that Quality of Service (QoS) provides a unifying theme on which the functions and facilities of the new integrated standar...
متن کاملEnd-to-End QoS Guarantees: Lessons Learned from OMEGA
With audiovisual and other sensory information in distributed multimedia applications, end-to-end quality of service guarantees are a major acceptance factor for these applications. We designed and implemented an end-point architecture, called OMEGA, for provision of end-to-end QoS guarantees. This architecture relies on a distributed QoS management entity, called the QoS Broker, to translate, ...
